Design for the net In some respects, design for the net follows the same rules as design for print, from aesthetic maxims (e.g. don't proliferate font styles) to the usual elements of direct marketing 101 (e.g. include your 800 number on every page). However, issues specific to the new media also abound. No one likes to wait more than 10 seconds for a page. It's pointless designing a page to look great in Internet Explorer on a Mac if it comes out dark and poorly formatted using Netscape Navigator on a PC. And so on. Some of the major pitfalls come under what we like to refer to as "wyginwog" (what you get is NOT what others get) heading, such as: familiarity with the medium (internet newbie to savvy internet professionals) screen sizes from 640x480 to 1600x1200 from 256 to 32-bit color depth multiple browsers such as Internet Explorer 3, 4 and 5, as well as Netscape Navigator 3 and 4, just to name a few multiple operating systems (Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.) connection speeds from 14.4 to T3's printability on inkjets, laserjets, etc. Digital Impact knows how to produce the right combination of aesthetic innovation, "navigation" consistency, and effective expression of information texture through visual cues, without violating the many constraints of the web. Static graphics Static graphics are a key ingredient of a contemporary Internet presence. To keep costs down, Digital Impact can sometimes reuse a client's existing corporate logo and other graphics to establish the overall look of a website. Alternatively, new graphics can be created from scratch (see graphics gallery). Or we can mix new and old together. Graphics and photos can also be drawn from Digital Impact's extensive high quality libraries, or one of several Internet based libraries.
